The Madrid City Council will launch a specific plan of four million euros to promote long-haul tourism from Asia, mainly from China, Japan and Korea.

These travelers spend “an average of seven days” in the cities they visit, so for Madrid they are “particularly attractive” tourism, argued the mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, before participating this week in the City of Madrid Tourism Forum 2023, organized by the City Council.

The mayor and candidate of the PP to revalidate the position has celebrated that Madrid “finally” is one of the four best urban tourist destinations in the world, behind Dubai, London and Paris.

Almeida highlighted that for the fourth consecutive year the city has been chosen as the best business tourism destination, and “for the first time” the Alliance for Tourism Excellence (Exceltur) has chosen the capital as the “first” urban tourist destination in Spain, above Barcelona.

“This encourages us to continue working on this tourism model that bets” on “high impact”, on tourism “that is reconcilable with neighborhood coexistence” and that is “sustainable”, and with a “long radius”, Almeida has detailed .
