A total of 79 people have been evacuated from their homes as a precaution in the Asturian councils of Valdés and Villayón, in the west of the community, due to the numerous forest fires that broke out this Thursday in Asturias.

The Emergency Service of the Principality of Asturias (SEPA) estimated the number of simultaneous outbreaks at 90 late in the afternoon, seventeen less than the maximum of 107 recorded throughout the day, which has once again been marked by strong gusts of southerly wind and the absence of rain.

In addition, the emergency services have asked the populations of Valle, Gallinero, Barcia, Sapinas and Lago, in the council of Valdés, one of the hardest hit, to confine themselves to their homes and avoid travel on the affected roads.

During last midnight another twenty residents of the towns of Aristebano and Caborno, also in the municipality of Valdés, were evacuated.

These evictions were in turn added to the preventive evacuation carried out yesterday of an elderly woman in La Vallina (Llanes), two more people in Llaneces (Allande) and the only resident of the Coucellín (Tineo) farm.

Today, the cut of the A-8 has also been ordered, at kilometer 450, in the Valdés council, and the N-634, in Bahínas, in Castrillón.

Many of the fires are still small in high areas where they do not pose a danger, but others have already forced the evacuation of dozens of people and the flames have reached some houses, cabins and granaries in isolated areas.

The extinction operation has been reinforced to exceed 600 troops, who have the help of dozens of land vehicles, two seaplanes and five helicopters.
