The Civil Guard is investigating the causes that could have caused the vehicle in which six young people, aged between 19 and 17, were traveling on Saturday to leave the road at kilometer 1.1 of the LUP-2604 highway , in the Lugo municipality of Xove. Four of them died and the driver was seriously injured.
All the hypotheses remain open and the authorities are trying to clarify from the exact time the accident occurred, to the speed, the state of the road or whether the victims were wearing seat belts, among other matters.
In statements to the media this Sunday, the Government sub-delegate in Lugo, Isabel RodrÃguez, regretted this “great tragedy” and conveyed her “maximum condolences and support” to the families.
Regarding the investigation, he has asked that the security forces and bodies be allowed to work to investigate the causes of this accident. “Out of respect for the families, I think we should not say anything,” he said.
Questioned about whether the sixth passenger, slightly injured, left the scene of the accident to return hours later, as some media reported this Sunday, RodrÃguez insisted that “the security forces and bodies should be allowed to work”. and, later, “the conclusions will be known”.
“There are many rumors and many statements out there, but I think that all families deserve respect and we must be quite respectful of the tragedy they are experiencing,” he insisted.
For his part, the second vice president of the Xunta, Diego Calvo, confirmed this Sunday that the autopsies are being carried out during this day, which he hopes will be finished “as soon as possible”, for which he has indicated that they have “redoubled the teams to be able to do it as soon as possible.”
The accident occurred on a sharp curve located in A Rigueira, in the vicinity of the Palmeiro urbanization. As recounted by the accidental chief lieutenant of the Lugo Traffic subsector, José Manuel Santiso, the car was drawing a curve when it left the road on the left side, hit a concrete pole of the power line and fell, after turning around bell, by an embankment of about three or four meters until ending on a private farm.
The wrecked vehicle was seen at 9:40 a.m. by a resident of the area who gave the warning to the 112 emergency center. Civil Guard agents and a device articulated by Sanitary Emergencies 061 made up of three ambulances, a medicalized helicopter and staff from the continuous care point in Viveiro (Lugo).
In addition to the four deceased, two more people were traveling in the car. The 19-year-old driver was seriously injured and was urgently evacuated to the Lucus Augusti Hospital in the provincial capital. The sixth passenger, also 19 years old, suffered minor injuries and was transferred to the A Mariña Hospital, located in Burela (Lugo).
