The Supreme Court has confirmed the sentences of 16 and 18 years in prison for two men for murdering the ex-father-in-law of one of them, setting fire to his cabin in January 2018 in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda (Barcelona). The Criminal Chamber has issued a sentence, to which EFE has had access, which rejects the appeals of the convicted against the resolution of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia that confirmed another of the Court of Barcelona for crimes of murder and arson.
In addition to the two convicted of murder, the Supreme Court ratifies the sentence to five years and two months in prison for a third person involved in the events who was the one who transferred the other two by car.
The crime occurred at midnight on January 13, 2018, when the ex-son-in-law went to the cabin of the father of his ex-sentimental partner in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda “with the intention of killing him” to take revenge on his ex-partner for having ended their relationship and not wanting to Come back with him. Once there, the two main convicts set fire to the cabin where the man lived, who was unable to exercise any defense action or flee because he was seriously affected by the previous consumption of alcohol and, furthermore, asleep. The fire completely destroyed the cabin and caused his death due to acute respiratory failure caused by smoke inhalation.
Two of the three convicted were addicted to alcohol and drugs while the victim suffered from a manic disorder of toxic etiology, with a 65% administratively recognized disability.
In addition to the prison sentence, the Supreme Court ratifies the payment of joint compensation between the two main convicts of about 218,000 euros to the relatives of the victim and to the ex-son-in-law the prohibition to approach and communicate with the ex-partner for 28 years.
