The mayoress of Barcelona, Ada Colau, and the head of the Esquerra Republicana list in the Barcelona municipal elections on May 28, Ernest Maragall, will not attend the event organized by Motoristes por Barcelona for the mayoral candidates to present before this large group (350,000 users in the Catalan capital alone) their proposals regarding the future of motorcycles in the city.

The organizers of the event have published a statement informing of the final date of the event, next April 14, at four in the afternoon at the Eixample Teatre (Aragó, 140), and confirming the absence of two of the seven candidates for those who had been invited on the condition that those who participated in were the heads of the list of the formations that have representation in the City Council.

Motoristes por Barcelona explains that they offered up to three different dates to Ada Colau (BComú) and Ernest Maragall (ERC) and that they were repeatedly rejected, alleging “incompatibility of the agenda” of these two political leaders.

According to the organizers of the act, the comunes offered the possibility of replacing the mayoress with their deputy mayor for Ecology and Urbanism and number 3 of the BComú candidacy in the next elections, Janet Sanz.

For its part, ERC proposed as a representative of this formation, in the absence of Ernest Maragall, the current councilor and number 11 on the Republican list, Max Zañartu. These substitutions have not been accepted by the motorists’ association, which recalls that all the political parties called, seven in total, with municipal representation, “were aware from the beginning that the call required the exclusive presence of the leaders in order to maintain the credibility of the event through the list heads of each party”.

“Any substitution,” they argue, “could have affected the presence of the leaders who have complied with the organizer’s request.”

Finally, given the refusals of BComú and ERC, the act Barcelona, the city of motorcycles, with which Motoristas por Barcelona wants the candidates to get wet and show if they really defend the utility of the motorcycle as part of the solution to the mobility in the city and its metropolitan area, will have the participation of mayors Jaume Collboni (PSC), Xavier Trias (Junts), Daniel Sirera (PP), Anna Grau (Ciudadanos) and Eva Parera (Valents), who will explain their proposals and commitments before an audience made up of 300 bikers.
