The fact that a famous person speaks openly about their illnesses or ailments always tends to have a positive effect among their followers. To demonstrate it, the “campaign” that Hugh Jackman has been carrying out for the protection of the skin, since the actor was diagnosed with skin cancer, for which he has already been operated on up to six times.
A basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer, located on his nose, for which he underwent surgery for the last time in 2017 -where up to six were removed-, just before the premiere of Logan, the last installment of the saga Wolverine. A disease from which he thought he had gotten rid of, but it seems that he does not intend to give it a rest because seven years later he has had to undergo no less than two other biopsies.
The actor announced in May 2015 that in less than two years he had suffered from four types of skin cancer (three of them on the nose and one on the shoulder). The actor has always thanked his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, for having been the one who discovered his first cancer, encouraging him to go to the doctor to have his nose checked in 2013. Since then, he has performed check-ups every three months, the last being where new possible cancer cells had been located.
The Australian is now waiting for the results, but he wanted to tell his followers what was happening on Instagram. Thus, with his nose bandaged, he explained in a video on the social network the reason for his condition: “I want you to listen to it for me, in case you see me like this on the street, I have just had two biopsies. I will know what it is in two or three days.”
“I know you’ve heard me talk about my basal cell carcinomas before. I’ll keep talking about them, if I have to. And if that helps just one person remember to put on a high-protection sunscreen, I’m satisfied,” says the actor. , also recommending to his followers that they undergo frequent check-ups to detect any complications derived from unprotected skin exposure to the sun early.
“Basal cell carcinoma in the world of skin cancer is the least dangerous of all,” he took the opportunity to reassure the actor, “But please, put on sunscreen. It’s not worth it. It doesn’t matter how tanned you want to get. Trust me “Trust me. Wear sunscreen, you’ll have just as much fun. Stay safe.”
The last time the actor went through something similar was in 2021, when he underwent a new biopsy, on that occasion in case he had more cancer cells located in his right ear. A test that came out negative, but that he wanted to share with his followers to draw attention to the importance of preventive tests.
“I know you might get bored with this, but it’s so easy to do. If you’re like me and knew nothing when you were young, didn’t use sunscreen either and grew up in the sun, you need to get checked more urgently,” he explained.
