The mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Núria Parlon, has asked Aigües Ter-Llobregat (ATL) for the “urgent” repair of a leak in a pipe in the Che Guevara park, in the neighborhood of Les Oliveres. The council calculates that more than 86,000 liters of water can be lost per day, at a rate of more than one liter of water per second.
Company sources explain to the ACN that controls are being carried out to determine the origin of the water and that, for now, “it cannot be ensured that the water that is lost is from an ATL pipeline.” However, Parlon has warned that in the current context of drought “every liter of water that is lost is an irrecoverable value” and has demanded that actions be increased to reduce losses in the supply network at all levels.
In this sense, the City Council has ensured that it was alerted to the fault last year, without it having been repaired to this day. In addition, municipal sources have detailed that water has been lost at this point in the municipality for many years, without being able to specify, however, the exact date of the start of the leak.
ATL, for its part, has said that with the controls carried out so far, it cannot be ensured that the water comes from the Ter water treatment plant and that only “part” of the water is chlorinated and, therefore, made drinkable. Company sources have explained that the case is being studied with the rest of the administrations involved.
The leak from Santa Coloma de Gramenet is added to that of neighboring Badalona, ​​which has had a leak in a pipe in the Canyet neighborhood for 18 years and loses about 180,000 liters every day. Also in Badalona, ​​the mayor has asked the ATL to solve the incident urgently, but this is not expected to happen until 2025.
