Champions League winner Real Madrid raised the most money in a European competition last season with 133.7 million euros. UEFA made public the income of the teams and the whites occupy the first position of a list where the following Spanish clubs are Atlético de Madrid, Villarreal, Barça and Sevilla.

The mattress team received 89.6 million for their participation until the quarterfinals, where they lost to Manchester City, while Villarreal received 78 million for reaching the semifinals against Liverpool. Barça stayed at 64.6 million after falling in the group stage and Sevilla stayed at 51.9 million.

Madrid’s total includes a basic payment for entering the group stage, bonuses for results, a portion of the rights to broadcast in Spanish and an additional payment based on the clubs’ historical records in UEFA competitions.

Liverpool lost the final to Madrid and collected a total of 120 million euros from the total prize fund of the Champions League, of more than 2,000 million euros. Only two other clubs earned nine-figure sums: Bayern Munich received almost €110 million and Manchester City received almost €109 million.

PSG’s loss to Madrid in the round of 16 meant they were paid just €92m by UEFA. UEFA indicated that the 32 clubs in the group stage were paid an average of €61.8 million, with the lowest payment being the €23.7 million received by the Sheriff.

Barça earned 64.6 million euros for participating in the Champions League group stage and received another 6.4 million for going through to the knockout rounds of the Europa League. The Blaugrana lost in the quarterfinals to eventual champions Eintracht Frankfurt, who received €38m for finalist Rangers’ €20.7m. For its part, Roma obtained 19.2 million euros as champion of the Conference League, the third European competition.
