Church, cemetery, houses on both sides of the reservoir, the old mill, streets can be guessed… The drought allows us to rediscover the corners of the old town of Sant Romà de Sau, which was engulfed by the waters of the reservoir that is now dry, like It can be seen in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.

The drought does not show what we should not really see, since the current landscape in the Sau reservoir is a reflection of the persistent drought that plagues Catalonia. We can look, for example, at the cracked ground.

The reservoir, inaugurated in 1962, covered the town of Sant Romà de Sau, the remains of which, especially the bell tower of the Romanesque church, are visible when the dammed water level is low.

This reservoir is part of a system of three swamps (along with those of Susqueda and Pasteral) that unites the counties of Osona, in the province of Barcelona, and La Selva, in the province of Girona.

Not only is the entire Romanesque church of Sant Romà perfectly visible, but we can increasingly get an idea of how people lived in the town before it was submerged.
