The media war between members of the Torres family continues to be one of the most striking topics today. Joaquín Torres’ mother, Joaquina Verez Vivanco, died on March 2 after fighting a long illness. A terrible loss that has been a blow to the entire Torres family and has also fueled the intense confrontation between the architect and his older brother Julio.
The former collaborator of Espejo Público revealed a few days ago in a recent interview with Semana magazine that his brother Julio had left his parents almost bankrupt after taking control of their business conglomerate. An economic situation that would have led the heads of the family to go from having 41 million euros to practically nothing.
After discovering his brother’s betrayal, Raúl Prieto’s husband decided to break ties with Julio, to the point of not wanting to see him even at his mother’s funeral mass. This was communicated this past Monday, March 18, by the architect just upon his arrival at the Madrid church where the solemn ceremony was going to take place. ”For me, Julio is dead, he is not my brother, he does not exist and I hope he does not come, because that would mean that my father would leave (…) For me, no one is missing, only my mother,” he declared.
However, the possibility of Julio attending mass was generating a lot of tension in the rest of the family members. ”My father has asked him not to come, but I don’t know what he will do,” he said before the microphones of And now Sonsoles. Finally, the architect’s older brother did not attend mass, giving the family some peace.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Antena 3 program revealed what Joaquina Verez Vivanco’s farewell had been like. The architect was surrounded by almost his entire family, except his brother Julio, and many professional friends, such as Terelu Campos, Fiona Ferrer, Marta Sánchez or her husband Raúl Prieto, who wanted to support the architect in this complicated moment.
During the ceremony there were very emotional moments, such as Joaquín Torres’ speech. The architect went up to the altar to say a few words and I can’t help but get emotional when remembering his mother. Another of the great moments was the tribute that Marta Sánchez made to her deceased person by performing the song Profundo Valor. ”It was difficult for me, I was emotional,” the singer declared through tears as she left the church.
