A total of 28 people have died in 22 accidents that occurred on the roads since the start of the special operation for Easter, on Friday, March 31, and which ends this Sunday in many communities, except in Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, and Navarra. , Euskadi and La Rioja.

According to the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), the days with the highest accident rate were Saturday, April 1, with 6 fatalities in three accidents, and Saturday, April 8, with 4 deaths in three accidents.

Until 8:00 p.m. this Sunday, the DGT had recorded only one fatal accident, in Albacete (CM-3207), with a 47-year-old man who died after the head-on collision between a car and a motorcycle.

In the absence of the conclusion of the operation at midnight on Monday, the fatalities of last year, which were 27, have already been exceeded.

The return of the Easter holidays has caused delays throughout the first day of return, especially at the entrances to Madrid, exits from coastal areas and on other roads in the direction of the capital.

Around 8:00 p.m., traffic on the highways was complicated by various aspects: in Castellón, on the AP-7 towards Barcelona; and in Girona, in Maçanet de la Selva towards Barcelona, ​​also on the AP-7 in Fogás de la Selva towards Barcelona.

At that time, the traffic was intense due to other accidents that occurred in Cantabria, on the A-8 in Allen del Agua towards Bilbao; in Murcia, on the A-7 in Jabalí Nuevo towards Murcia capital; and at the Madrid exit on the A-42, in Fuenlabrada.

The Burgos highway (A-1) has been one of the entry routes to Madrid with the greatest traffic intensity, especially at the height of Somosierra, and also the Valencia highway (A-3) in the direction of the city, which gathered late in the afternoon in Cuenca, in the municipalities of Villares del Saz and Montalvo.

Traffic was also slow on the A Coruña highway (A-6) near El Espinar, in Zamora (Villalpando) and in Valladolid (Medina del Campo).

On the South Highway (A-4) there was traffic density in Ciudad Real, Almuradiel and Valdepeñas; and in Extremadura (A-5) at various points in Toledo (Oropesa, Talavera de la Reina and Valmojado).

The second phase of the Easter Special Traffic Operation, which will end at midnight this Monday, is the most important in terms of volume of trips, since some 9.4 million trips are estimated, which means 1.5 million daily, almost 2.5% more than last year.

This Monday the return will take place in the regions where it is a holiday, which will cause traffic problems between 1:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., according to the DGT.
