The European Parliament has opened an investigation against the Cs MEP José Ramón Bauzá for a complaint of workplace and psychological harassment by one of the assistants of the former Balearic president. It is a confidential procedure, so the exact accusations are unknown, but El Confidencial points out that it is a complaint filed last summer.

Both José Ramón Bauzá and Cs have avoided commenting on these accusations, which may have consequences for the MEP. The last time there was a similar complaint against a member of the European Parliament, the PSOE MEP Mónica Silvana González was punished with a loss of allowances worth more than 10,000 euros and with the suspension of her MEP status for one month. .

The investigation is continuing and statements have already been taken from several members of the MEP’s office. The final proposal on this investigation must be validated by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, after the researchers deliver this confidential report.

José Ramón Bauzá was already immersed in a serious scandal in the European Parliament for his contacts with the Qatari regime. Bauzá chaired the Friendship Group between Qatar and the European Union, an entity linked to the Qatari Embassy in Brussels, but left the agreement on hold when the scandal broke out over the charging of commissions from various MEPs by the Qatari regime.

One of the MEPs was even arrested. Bauzá has traveled regularly to Arab countries and has stayed in luxury hotels invited on some occasions by private companies. “Given the very serious events of recent days and until we get to the bottom of the matter, I announce the suspension of the EU-Qatar Friendship Group,” he announced on social media.

Bauzá is a Cs MEP after joining this party just before the European elections. Previously, he had been a member of the PP and became president of the Balearic Islands with a large absolute majority. After a legislature marked by enormous tensions in linguistic matters -during his term there was the largest demonstration in the history of the Balearic Islands against the president’s educational model-, Bauzá was elected regional senator after losing the elections.
