The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, received 232,000 euros from RCD Mallorca in 2008 through his company Esfinge Veinte S.L. for an alleged “report of players and a study of the Argentine market” of which there is no evidence and which he himself denied having done in 2014. The case was uncovered by El and is reminiscent in some respects of the Negreira case, which affects the Boat.

This is a matter that already sparked controversy in 2014 and for which Javier Tebas had to give explanations. The then vice-president of LaLiga, he was between 2001 and 2010, collected 232,000 euros from the Balearic team, something that was not illegal by virtue of his position. However, in the first invoice issued by Mallorca and signed by Pedro Terrasa, then manager of the club and close friend of Tebas, the concept that appeared was “football players report of the Argentine League for the 2008 market”.

The case was uncovered six years later, in 2014, by Diari de Mallorca, which published that original invoice, after a tax inspection to which Esfinge Veinte S.L., a Tebas company, was subjected. The medium explained that this report was surprising “because the club already had a specific person in charge to watch football from this country”. He also assured that all invoices that exceeded 200,000 euros “had to appear, by order of president Vicenç Grande, the signatures of Pedro Terrasa and Nando Pons (sporting director). Surprisingly, in this payment to Esfinge Veinte S.L. only the rubric of the then manager appears”.

At that time Javier Tebas sent the media an invoice for the same amount but with a different concept: “Commission for the mediation of the agents of the player Guillermo Ariel Pereyra in the transfer to Lokomotiv”. The document was dated April 1, 2008, but it was not signed by Pedro Terrasa, as was the one published by Diari de Mallorca. Tebasva explained that same day, April 9, 2014, that the invoice corresponded “to the concept of intervention in the transfer of Guillermo Pereyra […] The only intervention I had in the operation of the player was the legal advice and especially the recruitment in Russia”, he assured. For his part, Pedro Terrasa defended the version of the president of LaLiga and insisted that the correct invoice was the one Tebas had sent to the media. In addition, he denied the preparation of the report in question and attributed to an error that in the concept it was specified “football players report of the Argentinian League”.

Since the beginning of the nineties, Tebas has worked for at least eleven First and Second Division teams. Among the long list of services has been advisor to Piterman, Ruiz Mateos and Lopera, sales intermediary and club manager and lawyer for players and coaches. In the case of Mallorca, of which he was a representative, he came to have 15% of the club’s shares after buying them from Mateu Alemany, at the time his great friend, in 2010. In 2012, Pedro Terrasa was the who acquired that percentage to become a councilor of the club.
