Last weekend of Temps de Flors in Girona. The city has been filled with visitors in recent days with mobile phones and cameras in hand to portray floral ornamentations, as seen in The Readers’ Photos of La Vanguardia.

The success, once again, of this spring floral festival comes in the midst of a debate about tourist pressure in the city of Girona, about whether or not it can support so many visitors not only in Temps de Flors but throughout the year.

In this sense, the Girona City Council will not allow groups of more than 25 tourists on guided tours of the city. This is one of the measures that the council wants to apply to seek balance with the neighbors. In addition, megaphones, loudspeakers or any device used to amplify the guide’s voice will be prohibited.

Girona, Temps de Flors will end its 69th edition tomorrow. Since last May 11, 137 floral projects have been deployed in 109 spaces. The exhibition has moved up its opening and closing times, from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., to adapt to visiting habits observed in recent years.

To deal with the drought, native spices or spices adapted to dry climates and dried and preserved flowers have been prioritized and watered only on the day of assembly with rainwater.

Continuing with the objective of expanding the celebration beyond the city center, this year Temps de Flors has reached 16 neighborhoods: Barri Vell, Can Gibert del Pla, Carme-Vista Alegre, Devesa-Güell, Eixample, Mas Ramada, Mercadal , Montilivi, Palau-sacosta, Pedreres-Fora Muralla, Pla de Palau-Sant Pau, Santa Eugènia, Sant Narcís, Taialà, Torre Gironella and Vall de Sant Daniel. In addition, two accessible itineraries are proposed in the Old Quarter for people with reduced mobility.
