The debate on Amnesty played a relevant role in the result of the Galician elections according to a post-election survey by the Center for Sociological Research that was made public today. This vote was held on February 18. Alfonso Rueda won a resounding victory by revalidating the absolute majority of the Popular Party in this community.
According to this survey, Galician voters consider that the first topic of debate between the political parties during the electoral campaign was the Amnesty law, in second place was health – which in the surveys prior to the campaign was the main concern expressed by the voters. respondents – and thirdly the environment related to the pellet crisis (the plastic balls that contaminated the beaches of Galicia in the weeks before the elections).
42% of voters considered that these issues were important and consequently had a certain weight when going to vote among those who had not made a decision until the last minute. According to the survey, seven out of ten voters were already clear about who they would vote for before starting the campaign.
The Galician elections were held while the Amnesty bill was being debated in Congress and in addition, at the end of the first week of the campaign, sources at the highest level of the Popular Party recognized the conversations with Junts to explore their support for the investiture by Alberto Núñez Feijoo. Some conversations in which the criminal neglect for the politicians involved in the ‘procés’ was also addressed.
In any case, the survey shows the unwavering loyalty of the Galician PP electorate, to which 85% of its voters were loyal, and the retraction of the voters of the Galician Socialist Party, which ended up with nine deputies, five less than in the elections of 2020. The Bloc, according to this survey, is responsible for a good part of the losses of the Galician socialists by taking away 27% of their former voters according to this survey.
