The multinational adds to these direct taxes another item of 614 million in what it describes as “indirect taxes as a result of our activity in Spain”. “These are taxes that we collect and remit from our customers, employees, and other third parties due to our business activities in Spain,” Amazon clarifies.

In this section of “indirect taxes” the company includes the payment of VAT, as well as “the taxes paid by our employees withheld by Amazon” and “the VAT that Amazon collects and remits to the tax authorities in Spain for third-party sales”. .

“Amazon is a growing business with high sales volume, but, as with retail businesses, operating profits remain relatively low due to price pressure in a very competitive market, intensive capital investments and to the growing operating costs, including those derived from the increase in labor and inflation, ”says the multinational. Amazon adds 931 million paid to the treasury between direct and indirect taxes.

Regarding employment, Amazon assures that it closed 2022 with 22,000 permanent workers in Spain and that its goal is to reach 25,000 before the end of 2025. The company already has 40 logistics centers, after openings in Girona and Zaragoza.
