Seat has presented this Friday in Berlin the new Cupra Tavascan model with which it hopes to consolidate the new brand that will probably replace Seat as a banner. With the new model (with the appearance of an urban SUV or SUV), the Volkswagen subsidiary expects to sell 70,000 vehicles a year. Although the car will be manufactured in China, it has been developed and designed in Barcelona.

The commitment to Cupra is total since there is currently no new model in the future with the Seat brand. The company chaired by Wayne Griffith has highlighted this afternoon from Berlin the rapid growth of Cupra, which has only been on the market for five years. “Since its launch, Cupra has sold more than 300,000 cars and is the fastest growing brand in Europe. With a record number of more than 46,000 units sold in the first quarter of 2023, Cupra is boosting Seat’s profitability.” Once the current Seat models are no longer manufactured, the brand will remain focused on the mobility services of the Spanish company based in Martorell.

The car will be built entirely in China, at the Volkswagen Group plant in Anhui, China.

The battery will allow a maximum autonomy of about 550 kilometers. According to the company, in just 7 minutes it can be recharged to get 100 additional kilometers. In the event that the battery drops below 10%, it is possible to increase the charge up to 80% in just under half an hour using a charging point of at least 135 kW.

The Tavascan is Cupra’s second 100% electric car after the Born model. Seat has none. At the Martorell factory, it is planned to assemble the small electric urban model of the Volkswagen brand and the Cupra brand. But Seat and the works council aspire to achieve a second platform that guarantees employment and activity in Martorell with the end of combustion engines and the emergence of electric ones.

The Cupra Formentor is the best-selling model not only of the new brand but of the Seat group.

The Minister of Business of the Generalitat, Roger Torrent, participated in the presentation of the new model in Berlin, among others.
