A reed fire this Sunday afternoon next to the railway tracks in Santa Margarida and Els Monjos (Alt Pened̬s) has forced the interruption of the circulation of Rodalies and high-speed trains between Madrid РPuerta de Atocha Almudena Grandes and Barcelona Sants .

As reported by Adif, this affects the R4 line, cut between Vilafranca del Penedès and L’Arboç, and the high-speed trains between Barcelona and Camp de Tarragona. At this point an alternative transport service has been established. Renfe sources have explained that a road transport system is being managed for Cercanías users between Vilafranca and Sant Vicenç de Calders.

The Generalitat Firefighters work with six teams to try to put out the fire that has burned bushes and canizares, Civil Protection has put the plan for emergencies in passenger transport by rail (Ferrocat) on pre-alert. The flames affect the embankment located next to the railway, “for which reason the electrical voltage that is supplied to the trains has had to be cut off.”

According to Renfe, the departure of new AVE and AVLO trains from Barcelona and Madrid has been paralyzed until the fire is put out, although other companies (Ouigo and Iryo) also regularly run on the line. The Rodalies service between Barcelona and Vilafranca del Penedès works normally.

Renfe has reported that the passengers on the affected trains have been notified over the public address system of the line being cut, an incident that is also explained in the customer service offices at the stations.

Company sources have indicated that Renfe “applies the voluntary commitment to punctuality for its services and the refund of one hundred percent of the amount of the ticket for delays of more than 30 minutes.”
