A couple of days ago, an Italian restaurant burned down in the Madrid capital due to a rapid fire that spread through the plastic plants that decorated the premises. The fire started because one of the waiters finished cooking a pizza with a torch on the table in front of the customers, from where the artificial plants began to burn.
It was the Burro Canaglia restaurant located in Madrid’s Manuel Becerra square, a place that belongs to the Italian chain of establishments that is present in many cities in our country. The table that went up in flames was near the exit, so at the moment it caught fire, the fire traveled through all the artificial plants on the ceiling and walls, creating a mousetrap from which it was impossible to get out.
The dense smoke and raging fire killed two people, a 43-year-old customer and a 25-year-old waiter who had only been working at this Italian restaurant for a week. There are still several people in the ICU, one of whom is in critical condition.
The worker was called Julián Robles and is known by many as Jay Robles, since he became famous when he reached the last phase of the casting for Operación Triunfo 2020. The young musician dreamed of dedicating himself to his passion and had moved to the big city to work while achieving his purpose.
In The Ana Rosa Program, the father of the deceased young man spoke this morning, who assured that they are devastated by the news and that this catastrophe could have been avoided if the work environment had been safe.
”He was a hard worker, he didn’t stop. I found out at 3 in the morning ” explained the visibly distressed father before assuring that he received a photo of his son hours before the event because his sister was in the restaurant. ”The decoration is hell, justice be done. The pizza from hell has ended my son’s life. I had the feeling that something was going to happen…”, he explained to Ana Rosa Quintana. She also spoke yesterday in Four a day, where he assured that it could have been avoided: “We are exhausted, we are not going to bring him back to life, but that justice be tried to prevent something similar from happening.”
After this event, it is being investigated whether this premises had all the permits in order, as well as the licenses, the order and whether the required inspections had been carried out. It is also being carefully studied whether there really was a way to have avoided this terrible outcome.
The restaurant chain, for its part, released a statement yesterday offering its condolences to the families of the victims: “From the Burro Canaglia team we are deeply moved by the death of the victims of the fire that occurred last night at the premises by Manuel Becerra, Madrid. Through this statement we extend our most sincere condolences to the families affected and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
