The municipal elections on May 28 have been the focus of all the efforts of the political parties for a long time and yesterday a first assault ended. Last night the deadline to present the candidacies to the zone electoral boards expired, which will be in charge of analyzing if they meet the requirements before publishing the lists tomorrow.

Almost certainly, Esquerra Republicana will be the party that presents the most candidacies, with more than 800, a figure that Junts per Catalunya had set as its objective. The post-convergents lag behind the Republicans and see the elections as a key date to consolidate their space on a territorial scale. These are the first municipal ones since JxCat registered as a party outside of PDECat in 2020.

The third in contention is the PSC, which has already announced that it has 615 lists, 89 more than in the previous contest, which was the one with the fewest candidacies from the socialist ranks (526) together with that of 2015 (535). Gone are the more than 700 lists of 2007 (733) and 2011 (772).

In Comú Podem, which plays a strong role in Barcelona and the metropolitan area, presents 174 candidacies, although this time the competition between the commons and Podemos that took place in several municipalities in 2019 has been avoided.

The CUP remains at 163, 28 more than four years ago. In any case, with these candidacies the anti-capitalist formation is presented in municipalities where 5.6 million inhabitants reside. The most complicated thing is presenting lists in small towns, which are the majority.

PDECat, for its part, set itself the goal of having 300 lists, although it later lowered it to 250 and finally has 181. The final data will be known today.

In the political spectrum that goes from the constitutionalist center-right to the extreme right, the candidacies range from a hundred Ciudadanos and a long hundred from Vox to more than 200 from the PP, passing through the 70 from Valents.

The final data will be known today.
