On TVE they have an original series to attract the public to La1’s daily primetime: the 4-star series that, with a hybrid between comedy and mystery, intends to compete against El hormiguero or El intermedio from Monday to Thursday. To give it the necessary promotion and attention, the bet had a multi-channel premiere on Sunday with the broadcast of a double episode. The result? A decent audience with almost 1.8 million viewers, a screen share of 13% and an unexpected controversy on social networks.
“Guess which of these names has not written a single line of dialogue,” wrote the screenwriter Borja González Santaolalla from his Twitter account. In the image, six names: Daniel Écija, Ãngel Turlán, Aitor Santos and Tirso Conde as those responsible for the script, Diana Rojo as the scale artist and Eva Baeza as the dialogue writer.
It was a dart directed, it is assumed, at Daniel Écija, known as the creator of Family Doctor, Los Serrano, AÃda, Periodistas, Ãguila Roja, I am alive, The boarding school or the recent Cristo y Rey, who has forged a reputation in the industry for appearing as the creator of series in which he has not written a single episode or even, as González Santaolalla reveals, “not a single line of dialogue”.
González Santaolalla’s comment went beyond denouncing those who are awarded a script work that they do not carry out. And it is that, as he himself explains, Ãngel Turlán and he himself had written the two episodes broadcast this Sunday, and they wrote both the bible of the series and the pilot episode. It was ironic, therefore, that Turlán, González Santaolalla and Écija appeared jointly as authors of the “original idea” in the credits while González Santaolalla was excluded as a screenwriter in credits where Écija did appear with this title.
“If you give notes, give your opinion or demand changes, you are something else. If not, you would also have to appear in the wardrobe, makeup, art or assembly departmentsâ€, argued the 4-star creator, who considered it important to explain that “it is a common practice and it should be knownâ€. “Only if you write can you be a creator. Only if you write can you be a screenwriter, â€he said.
Along the same lines, they demonstrated from Alma, the main screenwriters union in Spain, which cited their complaint: “We remind you that writing is writing. The rest can be talking, conversing, sharing, debating, discussing, disagreeing, uttering, analyzing, deliberating, studying, reasoning, refuting, refuting, contradicting, proposing, suggesting, demanding, requesting, ordering, imposing, leading, questioning, challenging, scolding, objecting, urging, denying, approving, affirming, encouraging, encouraging, applauding, consolidating, propping up, reinforcing, endorsing, supporting, pushing… Even crying. All this can happen inside a script room, but the writing should only be signed by the writerâ€.
4 stars, which is broadcast from Monday to Thursday at 9:50 p.m. on the main TVE channel, focuses on the women of the Lasierra family, who receive the fourth star at the hotel at the least convenient moment. The cast is made up of Toni Acosta, Ana Gracia, Dafne Fernández, Marta Aledo, David Lorente, Raúl Prieto, Antonio Molero and Martà Cordero with the special collaboration of Antonio Resines. It is produced by The good mood, the Écija production company.
