The Madrid City Council celebrates this Tuesday the last ordinary plenary session of the current term (2019-2023) with a session in which several of the councilors are going to say goodbye to the capital City Council by taking other directions from 28-M, while others will intervene with the doubt of whether they will repeat in the seat by not having a high starting position in their respective electoral lists. But the hot seats, the most uncomfortable, and the ones that everyone looks at are those of the delegate for Families, Equality and Social Welfare, Pepe Aniorte, and the mayor of Innovation, Ángel Niño.

The controversy. The two councilors who began the legislature in the ranks of Ciudadanos are ending it by wearing the Popular Party shirt after having signed two cases of turncoats that had been seen coming for months and that have only further weighed down the candidacy of their already ex-chief , the vice mayor, Begoña Villacís

The negotiation. The good relationship that both councilors have maintained with the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, within the coalition government that PP and Cs have maintained this legislature seemed to guarantee a good position for Niño and Aniorte. But the full powers of the PP of Madrid that Isabel Díaz Ayuso acquired when she was elected president of the formation in June, forced the councilor to agree with the president of the Community on the signing of the two orange councilors.

After a first refusal, and a hard negotiation, the two defectors have managed to appear on the electoral ballots for 28-M. But Almeida has not given them such high starting positions as predicted. Specifically, the delegate of Families will occupy the 32nd position while that of Innovation will be located at 25.

The picture. Executed the discharge from Ciudadanos and the discharge from the PP, both have been brand new popular signings for a week. But before entering the dynamics of their new party, they have had to practice the poker face that they have had to put on today before the cloud of photographers that has come to cover the plenary session.

Sequence. In a plenary session scheduled for 9:15 a.m., Ángel Niño entered the chamber 10 minutes in advance, although before taking his place he preferred to socialize with colleagues from other benches, delaying the bad drink. Aniorte, for his part, has entered on the horn. Just a few seconds before the doors closed for the press. And when the time comes, they have taken their seat without hardly exchanging a word with their former leader, Begoña Villacís. On the other hand, they have not hidden their harmony with their already new companions of acronyms.

The poisoned message The deputy mayor of Madrid and spokesperson for the CS Municipal Group, Begoña Villacís, has sent a message to the councilors who have left the Group or have disassociated themselves from the project and has slipped that they do not have “honour, courage, word” and are dedicated to flee”. A message that has been fitted with faces of circumstances by Niño while Aniorte has saved it after leaving the chamber to attend a timely phone call.
