In this snapshot in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can see the poppy standing out in this field of Tordera, in the Alt Maresme, touching the region of La Selva.
The wild poppy has been associated with agriculture since ancient times. Their life cycle is adapted to most cereal crops and they flower and seed before the harvest of the crops.
Although it is considered a weed, its bright red color fills the fields with life, especially providing a beautiful contrast to the yellow of the rapeseed, as seen in the image.
Rapeseed is a growing crop in Catalonia. It can be profitable, since it is used to produce fodder and biodiesel.
The rapeseed landscape is beautiful, but in Spain it still brings back bad memories, in reference to the commercialization, in the spring of 1981, of denatured rapeseed oil and without sanitary control, which caused extensive poisoning.
