Ametller Origen, the distribution group of the Ametller family, leads an alliance of 14 companies that has presented a strategic project (Perte) focused on agri-food with the aim of obtaining Next Generation European funds. This is the Agrosmed project: Sustainable and Circular Agroindustry in the Mediterranean corridor, which includes, in addition to Ametller Origen, companies such as Wallbox, Heura, Mooma, Orgánicos Pedrin or Venvirotech Biotechnology.
The planned investment for the project as a whole is 43.9 million euros. The companies aspire to get 15.2 million euros through European funds and have requested 6.2 million via loan. Its territorial scope includes five communities (Aragon, Catalonia, Madrid, Murcia and Valencia) and it is expected to create 300 jobs until June 2025.
It is an initiative of a “backbone nature”, explained the group, which proposes the transformation of processes throughout the value chain of the agri-food sector to achieve the decarbonisation of the industry, the improvement of the sustainability of the products and the circularity of processes. Specifically, it seeks the digitization of the value chain, better waste management, the reduction in the use of fossil fuels to replace them with renewable energy sources or the recirculation of water, among other measures.
Likewise, it consists of 22 primary projects developed by the different companies that make up the alliance (three for energy saving, four for experimental development, four for industrial research, four for process innovation and seven for environmental protection).
These are interrelated with each other and have the participation of two research centers and two collaboration plans in the field of environmental management and the reduction of the environmental footprint of a product.
The commissioner of the Agri-Food Section of the Ministry of Industry, Jordi Carbonell, and the Government delegate, Carlos Prieto, visited yesterday the Agroparc de Ametller Origen –where part of the initiative is expected to be implemented– to meet with the directors of the main companies involved and know the details of the project. The agri-food part of Industry has received applications for 22 tractor projects worth 755 million euros of mobilized investment. The total public aid requested amounts to 394.4 million euros.
