Two animals have died in the fire that broke out on Wednesday night in a few blocks from the April Fair in Seville, in an event in which a girl was injured when she was hit by a horse that was fleeing the flames.
According to sources from Emergencias 112 AndalucÃa, at 11:52 p.m., about thirty calls were received from individuals reporting the burning of some tents and boxes at the Seville fairgrounds, behind the Blas Infante metro stop.
A large number of animals from the fair are kept in the place, which were immediately evacuated.
Firefighters, Local and National Police, CECOP and Health Emergencies were sent to the area, who considered the fire under control around one in the morning.
The Local Police of Seville, attached to the Area of ​​the Interior and Major Festivals, in coordination with the Animal Control and Protection Center, has opened proceedings for a possible crime of animal abuse against the owner of a horse-drawn carriage after the death also yesterday of a mare that was previously ill and whose illness had been aggravated by dehydration, according to the necropsy performed by the veterinarians.
The events occurred early Wednesday afternoon on Paseo de Colón, as reported by the Seville City Council with a note.
The veterinary report after carrying out the mandatory necropsy determined that the animal suffered from equine piroplasmosis and presented symptoms of having suffered from a fever.
According to the testimonies collected by the agents, this circumstance was known by the ownership of the mare, and even so he decided to take the animal out of the stables so that it would form a partner in the draft of a carriage.
According to the assessment of the veterinarians provided to the local police officers, the horse presented obvious symptoms of dehydration that would have aggravated the disease it suffered from and for which it should not have gone out to provide the service.
On the part of the Local Police of Seville, a device of plainclothes agents has been activated whose task is to detect this type of action to avoid situations of animal abuse.
This investigation remains open in case there is a repeat offence.
