At four o’clock in the morning on Friday, April 21, the Integrated External Surveillance Service detected a boat that was heading at high speed towards Mallorca. Neither the time of the trip nor the speed at which the boat was going are the usual ones and that factor triggered a movie maritime chase that ended with a cache of more than 2,000 kilos of hashish pollen that exceed five million euros and with five arrested people.

The Civil Guard did not yet know that that boat was a drug boat loaded with drugs and gasoline cans. It came from North Africa and the intention of the crew was to leave the bundles with the drugs in one of the coves in Majorca, deserted at that time, and use the gasoline for the return trip to North Africa, presumably to Algeria.

The crew members of the boat did manage to leave the bales and gasoline on the sand, but they immediately fled when they realized the presence of a Civil Guard boat, which had raised the alarm on suspicion that a crime was being committed. The traffickers managed to flee with the boat and tried to hide from the Civil Guard in one of the many coves on the coast, since it was impossible for them to return to North Africa without the fuel.

The head of the Meritorious Maritime Service in the Balearic Islands, Francisco Córdoba, explained this Thursday that a Civil Guard ship and a helicopter combed the area to find the boat, until, on Friday morning, they detected one of the The same characteristics that, upon discovering that she had been surprised, fled at great speed, at more than 50 knots.

It is at this moment that the film chase began, recorded by a civil guard from the helicopter. The boat approaches a cove where the few tourists who were in the area at that time witness the disembarkation of two crew members, who quickly hid in the urban center.

The two men were arrested on land and at that moment the second part of the operation began, with the seizure of new bundles that had been thrown into the sea, up to a total of 2,000 kilos of hashish in 57 bundles. The boat has also been seized, a powerful boat with two engines of 300 cannons each. Once the operation at sea was over, two men who collaborated with the traffickers were also arrested in Mallorca. All five men are in jail.
