The statements made yesterday by the PSC candidate for mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, in the CÃrculo Ecuestre announcing his desire to put a stop to certain works in the city, “digest” them, and specifically not to complete the connection in the next term del Trambaix and el Trambesòs on Diagonal, have provoked the angry reaction of the deputy mayor for Urban Planning, the common Janet Sanz, who today accused the socialist mayor of “playing with people’s lives with public transport”.
Janet Sanz has said that she hopes that Jaume Collboni’s statements are only “an error” caused by the fact that he was addressing an audience that is mostly against the tram. For this reason, she has asked the PSC for “a rectification”.
“I hope there is no pact between Mr. Trias and the PSC”, added number three on Ada Colau’s list in the May 28 elections, who recalled the position of the Junts candidate and former mayor of Barcelona, supporter of stopping the tram works in Verdaguer square and not continuing to Francesc Macià square.
Collboni is in favor of completing the project, but in his speech at the CÃrculo Ecuestre he specified that it would be preferable not to do so during the four-year term that will begin after the elections in a month.
Janet Sanz has insisted on the need to link the Trambaix and the Trambesòs through Diagonal avenue to improve the metropolitan connection, from Llobregat to Besòs. In her opinion, it is an “essential” work that until now has always had the support of the metropolitan socialist mayors and also the PSC in the Barcelona City Council and the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM).
Sanz recalled that also in the ranks of Junts, and specifically in the electoral list of Xavier Trias, there are firm supporters of the tram, such as the former Minister of Territories of the Generalitat, Damià Calvet, who in his day promoted the agreements between the City Council of Barcelona and the Government to complete this project.
