In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can see images of the latest and long-awaited storm in La Cerdanya, which has finally arrived, breaking, even momentarily, the persistent drought in Catalonia.

The rain that fell from midday yesterday Saturday and until early this Sunday morning in a good part of Catalonia has left moderate amounts in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees and scarce in Barcelona, where it had not rained for weeks, so it only momentarily alleviated the effects of the drought.

Civil Protection maintains the pre-alert activated due to the forecast of new rains in the second part of this Sunday and has warned that the intense rainfall in the Berguedà region may affect the fluvial course of the Llobregat river with the increase in flow in some points of the head municipalities.

Meteocat has indicated this Sunday that, in general, the rain that has fallen has been weak, especially in northeastern areas but that in points of the Pyrenees it has been abundant, such as in Ulldeter, in the Girona municipality of Setcases, where more than 50 have been exceeded. liters per square meter. However, in points of the north of Westeros it has not come to rain.

In the city of Barcelona, 3.1 liters per square meter was collected last night, while in Gandesa (Tarragona), the amount was 5.2 liters and in points in La Cerdanya, 41.3 liters. In many cases, the rain was accompanied by hail and thunderstorms.

In the last few hours, the Meteocat network systems have captured a total of 1,891 lightning strikes to the ground in Catalonia and another 8,205 cloud-cloud discharges.

In most cases, the storms were accompanied by strong gusts of wind. In Puig Sesolles, in Montseny, some of 75.2 kilometers per hour were recorded, and in Organyà (Lleida), 69.8 kilometers.

Before the rains, Catalonia experienced a new day of heat, with a record high temperature recorded in April in 12 of the 114 Meteocat stations for more than twenty years. The highest record was given in Benissanet (Tarragona), with 33.1.

The instability will continue until Monday, when it is expected to rain again in Berguedà, Ripollès, Valles Oriental, Osona, Garrotxa, Selva, Pla de l’Estany and Gironès.

The rains of the last few hours have significantly lowered the high risk of forest fire. Consequently, the Rural Agents of the Generalitat have declared the red level in nine counties, all of them in the south and east of Catalonia.
