The escape of Dani M.B., the 40-year-old man, who allegedly murdered a 15-year-old boy with two shots on a street in Sant Hipòlit de Voltregà lasted almost eight hours. The nearly 3,000 inhabitants of this small municipality in the Osona region spent Monday morning in commotion over the crime and tension in a town literally taken over by a large unit of the Mossos d’Esquadra, which has taken over the investigation.

The entire town knew the detainee, a violent guy who had been involved in altercations with numerous neighbors and who also had half a dozen criminal records on his record. The fugitive managed to remain hidden for hours, despite the mobilization of numerous specialized units. A team of negotiators from the central kidnapping and extortion unit arrived in Sant Hipòlit de Voltregà early in the morning and tried to reach the man through an acquaintance who did not cooperate with the investigators. The Mossos knew that the fugitive was armed and wanted to avoid a violent confrontation at all costs.

A confrontation from which he had no chance of coming out unscathed. The first to be activated was the Grup Especial d’Intervenció (GEI) of the Mossos, an elite unit specialized in the neutralization of armed and especially dangerous targets. And the subject they were looking for was because he had fired at least two shots at a 15-year-old teenager. The emergency medical services could not do anything for his life. The bloody body appeared in front of number 10 Sant Martí street in Sant Hipòlit, right at the doors of the suspect’s home, which after the crime was sealed by the homicide group of the central metropolitan police region that has taken charge of the investigation.

Numerous neighbors heard the shots, the screams, and some went out into the street. One of them approached the victim. He was bleeding from various wounds. “I touched him on the neck and he was still alive. The doctors couldn’t do anything,” he recounted.

The minor’s relatives gathered during the morning at the entrance to the street where the young man was killed. Some required assistance from EMS psychological teams.

The GEI, with the help of a police helicopter, citizen security patrols, ARRO, and numerous investigators, combed the town and nearby forests. They inspected abandoned warehouses, caravans… Around one in the afternoon, a neighbor reported seeing the suspect leaving a factory from which it was later learned that the man had the keys because he was making some repairs on the roof, in Vinyoles d’Oris . The suspect was walking parallel to the C-17. The man raised his hands at the moment when he was intercepted by the GEI. He did not resist. He was not armed. He was transferred to the Vic police station, where he was treated by a medical officer on duty to treat a minor injury and taken to cells.

In the afternoon, the suspect was transferred to the booths and two investigators from the homicide group began to ask him questions. Accompanied by a public defender, he refused to testify.
