As every year, the great stars of the world of culture and entertainment on the international scene have focused on the Metropolitan Museum of New York (MET), the world epicenter for one night for the world of fashion. Dozens of celebrities paraded through its stairs, showing off the outfits chosen to pay tribute to the kaiser of fashion, Karl Lagerfeld, who disappeared in 2019.

Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty was the theme chosen, and celebrities such as Penélope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Gisele Bündchen or Kim Kardashian did not want to miss the appointment, with spectacular creations inspired by the eternal designs of the German creative. But what happens when your signature design isn’t so unique anymore and another guest shows up in the same outfit at an event like this?

This is precisely what happened to the actress Olivia Wilde, who attended fashion night wearing a design by Gabriela Hearst de Chloé, inspired by one of Karl Lagerfeld’s most iconic designs, the Violin Dress that the Kaiser designed for the spring-summer collection of the French house in 1983.

A design whose original formed a sculptural black silhouette with cap sleeves, incorporated the shape of a golden violin decorated with beads on the front. The adaptation for Wilde, however, was recreated in white and gold to give it a modern air, also with a floor length to transform it into a ball gown.

What Wilde did not expect, however, was that her idea was not as original as she would have liked. Film director and editor of Vogue in China, Margaret Zhang, appeared in the same dress. Zhang’s version, however, was recreated in an almost black dark blue, she added some more sequins around the edges and a long cape that accompanied her on the red carpet.

As expected, the fact that the two coincided in their styling in an event that is prepared from year to year, such as this gala, did not go unnoticed by users on social networks, who filled the Internet with messages. Above all, taking into account that all the outfits are previously approved by Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue and president of the gala, so this coincidence is not something casual.

Needless to say, they didn’t cross paths, but both did justice to the design – each, in their own style.
