About twenty families from Corbera de Llobregat have mobilized to urge the Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya to formalize a second group at the Puig d’Agulles school due to the lack of places. A representation of those affected is meeting this Tuesday with the PSC, ERC, JxCAT and En Comú Podem, the relatives explain.

Through a statement, they have reported that the educational center has received “31 first-choice requests and only has 20 places available.” 15 of them are from “siblings who already have students enrolled in the center.” An instance has been filed with the department and territorial services.

They have the support of the association of relatives of school students to demand “a second group, not a second line,” clarifies the spokesman for the relatives, Dani Guillén. They argue that with the change of the 84 families that have made the process of requesting a place for early childhood education for the next course “80 can opt for the first option, thus complying with the LEC.”

In Corbera de Llobregat there are places available in other educational centers, but the orography of this Baix Llobregat town makes everything more complex. There live 15,210 people in an area of 18.41 square kilometers that are distributed in more than thirty different urbanizations located in mountainous areas.

“The other centers that are not the Puig d’Agulles are far away, outside the educational area,” summarizes Guillén, who is closer to Sant Andreu de la Barca than the urban center of Corbera but the Puig d’Agulles is a reasonable distance. “We believe that the opening of the second group is justified”, he concludes.
