Yesterday afternoon, the residents of Sant Hipòlit de Voltregà accompanied the parents, sister and grandparents of the 15-year-old who was killed in the early hours of Monday morning by two shots, practically at gunpoint, in one of the town’s streets. A large black crepe will dress the balcony of the Consistory in the coming days, which called for a few minutes of silence in memory of the victim and in revulsion of a crime that has shocked them all.
The victim was only 15 years old and for reasons that the police from the homicide group of the central police region are trying to determine, he crossed paths with or confronted a 40-year-old neighbor, problematic, violent and with fifty previous records, who allegedly killed him with two shots. The aggressor fled up the mountain, and got lost in a nearby forest, until he was arrested eight hours later from a Mossos deployment in which several specialized units participated.
Investigators moved the suspect to his home yesterday. They drove him at half past ten in the morning from the dungeons of the Vic police station to his home. He didn’t open his mouth. Just like he didn’t do it the night before when he was taken to a booth to be questioned. Yesterday he informed his official lawyer that he did not intend to cooperate with the police and that he would not provide any clues to help them find the weapon of the crime.
The scientific police entered the battered house with their white frogs so as not to contaminate the scene. The first thing they did was rescue the dog that lived with the suspect and hand it over to a relative, who took care of it.
Investigators used a metal detector to try to find the weapon. No success The most likely thing is that he got rid of it in the run. After the two hours of thorough inspection of the house and in the presence of the judge, the police transferred the detainee and the rest of the entourage to a nearby ship, a ten-minute walk from the house, in La Gleva, which the man had a key because he was doing repairs on the roof.
During the search of the house, the public security police closed the access to the street. This did not prevent Roger, a cousin of the victim, from approaching with his father, Emili López, who managed to calm his son, ready to skip the police cordon moved by rage, anger and impotence, to hold accounts with the detainee. “It’s clear that we all knew him, in the village. And we knew he had problems with alcohol and dealing with drugs. But never in life can you imagine that he is capable of doing something like this, shooting at a creature he has seen grow up in the village”, explained Emili.
The detainee had a history of drug trafficking, property damage and gender-based violence, in addition to having been cautioned on numerous occasions for confrontations with neighbors, who moved away when they saw him approach. This was explained by many yesterday.
The victim had been living at her grandparents’ house for some time after her parents moved with her younger sister to Roda de Ter. His mother shared a photo of the youngster on social media with a touching farewell message.
The detainee will appear in court today. It remains to be seen if the investigators manage to reconstruct what happened before the shots were fired and specify the incident that triggered the crime. In any case, the victim’s friends who accompanied him at the time also did not cooperate with the investigators when they were summoned to testify at the police station.
