“Sewing the city and its neighborhoods” through transformative urbanism. That is the proposal that the Junts per Catalunya candidate for Barcelona mayor’s office, Xavier Trias, launched this week at the Barcelona Tribuna informative lunch, organized by the Barcelona Economic Society of Friends of the Country, the Spanish Association of Managers and La Vanguardia .

The post-convergent leader, in this sense, has stressed that the Catalan capital “needs a change” and has advocated “recovering transformative urbanism in the face of tactics and temporary and improvised solutions”. Trias, who has been presented by Miquel Roca, has stressed that he will promote “changes in physiognomy and in the way of life”, as, he has stressed, happened in his day with the Cerdà plan or with the Olympic Games, which in his day helped modernize the city.

Thus, the convergent former mayor has also advocated actions in three main axes: in the fringe of the mountain, in the coastal area and the Besòs and in the Eixample and the area in between. Regarding the first strip, in Collserola, Trias wants to finish the water road and cover the Ronda de Dalt, “a project that is surely very ambitious and necessary that has been put into a corner in these eight years”. “Barcelona needs to approve the nature and greenery of Collserola to the city, to breathe better air and have spaces for leisure and sports, to stitch together the city and its neighbourhoods”, he pointed out.

In the coastal part, Trias has put several actions on the table and considers that although the city was opened to the sea with the 1992 Olympic Games, the coastal front was not completely closed and that some neighborhoods were not integrated, such as the Marina del Prat Vermell, in the Free Zone. “It can’t be a corner of the city.” “Sewing the city is connecting the Marina del Prat Vermell with the Paral·lel, lowering the ring road and making a great promenade that reconnects the city”, he asserted.

Likewise, it has also opted to make a large park on the coast, between Mar Bella and the Fòrum and to “remake and reconstruct Besòs urbanistically and socially with the rest of the affected municipalities, but with the leadership of Barcelona”, as well as “giving importance and value the Consorci del Besòs as an instrument of collaboration with the surrounding cities”. “It is unfortunate that being a city with two rivers, Besòs and Llobregat, the public cannot enjoy them”, he added.

Regarding the Eixample and the rest of the city, the Junts candidate wants to “update the Cerdà plan for the 21st century” and expand it, because, in his opinion, “there is an attempt to destroy it.” “The Eixample is in danger due to the improvisation and imposition of the municipal government of Ada Colau and Jaume Collboni”, pointed out Trias, who believes that it is convenient to “recover” the interior of the blocks and the interurban parks and that after the latest accusations of the City Council “there are first and second streets, the opposite of what Cerdà wanted”.

Actions like the one on Consell de Cent street, according to Trias, will cause “hypergentrification in those streets that have won the lottery of being only for pedestrians.” “The owners of premises or homes must be delighted, but the tenants of flats, offices or premises have it raw”, stressed the candidate, who believes that these decisions cause “a programmed collapse” of the streets that have not been “graced with the lottery.”

Trias considers that it is necessary to “recover the neighborhoods as a place of life and relationships” by renovating the main squares and streets of each neighborhood. In addition, he has reiterated that he will stop the junction of the tram on the Diagonal and that even the Verdaguer area and on the Gran Via he wants to carry out actions like the ones he carried out in his mandate so that they are more “friendly” arteries “. “I want to make the Barcelona of the six great parks: In addition to the Ronda de Dalt park and the one we will build between Port Olímpic and the Fòrum, we have to improve and consolidate Tres Turons; Montjuïc; Besòs; and that of Llobregat”, he asserted.

Regarding the properties occupied in the La Bonanova neighborhood, the post-convergent candidate has assured that if he is elected mayor “he will comply with the law” and has wanted to differentiate the cases of El Kubo and La Ruïna de Can Vies. “They prepare them for me”, he has pointed out about the possibility that the eviction sentence will come out shortly after he goes on to lead the consistory.

“Can Vies is a bit different. They were people who created a lot of problems, but they did a lot of social things with the neighbors and there were neighbors who were very in favor and others who were very against. In the cases of La Bonanova, it is not like that, everyone is outraged. Order has to be established and authority has to do it, not a bully,” he said, with a veiled allusion to the actions of various parties on the occasion of the campaign.

In relation to the perception of insecurity, one of the main problems in Barcelona, and the commitment of Eva Parera, candidate for Valents, to use the National Police and the Civil Guard to solve the problem of insecurity, Trias has stood out, assuring that ” that is nonsense” that says “far-right people who want to create conflicts where there are none”.

“There is already collaboration, but we need more Guàrdia Urbana and more agents of the Mossos d’Esquadra,” said the candidate, who has advocated “returning to the situation” in Barcelona when he governed. “There were even joint patrols that went down to the subway,” he highlighted.

Asked about the resolution of the Central Electoral Board that will be communicated to Parliament today regarding Laura Borràs and her loss of seat, Trias indicated that he does not share the resolution.

“What are we going to do to her? She feels reprisalized for being political, because if she weren’t political, that would not happen to her, there are things that should be taken through administrative channels and not criminal proceedings,” she pointed out regarding the president of her game. “She feels retaliated and tries to defend herself…she does well to defend herself.

I appreciate him, I love him,” he concluded.
