A 26-year-old young man died in the early hours of this Thursday from gunshot wounds during the celebration of the ‘scudetto’ in which there are also, for the moment, three other wounded. The deceased was admitted to the Cardarelli hospital, where he died shortly after from gunshot wounds, according to local media reports.
In that same episode, which took place in Plaza Volturno, near the central station of Naples, three other men were wounded by gunshots.
In addition, a 20-year-old woman is admitted to the Frattamaggiore hospital, in the province of Naples, with a serious condition with head trauma and a brain hemorrhage that put her life at risk. The young woman was run over when she was with three other people, during the celebrations, by a man who collided with the outer wall of the Casoria Carabinieri barracks, running over the four people who were walking there.
The driver tried to flee on foot, but the security images allowed him to be identified and reported. The four people run over, all between 20 and 31 years old, were transferred to different hospitals.
In addition, the long Neapolitan night ended with a balance of more than 200 citizens who required medical attention for various reasons. Among the most repeated were those related to injuries from the use of fireworks or flares, as well as smoke inhalation; bruises and fractures from falls or confrontations; and panic attacks. Three of the wounded were police officers, all with minor conditions.
The streets of Naples were flooded during the early hours of this Thursday with partenopean fans celebrating the achievement of the third ‘Scudetto’ in its history, the first without Diego Armando Maradona and after 33 years without achieving it.
With two main focal points such as the surroundings of the Diego Armando Maradona stadium, where the almost 55,000 people who came to watch the game against Udinese (1-1) celebrated, and the central Plaza del Plebiscito, Naples did not have a single street in which there was not a fan celebrating the Italian title since the end of the match.
The whole city was in the streets with flags, scarves and T-shirts. A city in which the smoke from the flares and that left by the motorcycles was also the protagonist, clouding the view on a long night. And it is that tonight the Neapolitans did not care that this Friday was a working day. Tonight the only thing that mattered was to celebrate that history had been made and that the city was once again Italian champion.
Young people between the ages of 15 and 30 were the most present sector in the night of festivities, always accompanying their presence with victory songs; but children, parents and grandparents celebrated together in the southern city what seemed to be a New Year’s party.
But it was not only the streets, it is that the sky was also celebrating and dyed with colors by the countless fireworks that had a place at the same time from different points of the city, which not only offered the visual spectacle but also helped with the sound to generate that feeling that the city was more awake than ever.
The team in the green fulfilled with the tie and the city fulfilled with the long-awaited party that had been preparing since February. But all this was no more than a taster of what is to come, since this Sunday the celebration may be with the players on the field and on June 4 the official party will be held with the title in their arms.
