The basketball player of the Dallas Mavericks Luka Doncic will bear the expenses of the funerals of the eight children and a security guard murdered this Wednesday at a school in Belgrade (Serbia).

The Slovenian player will pay for the funerals, as well as the cost of psychological help for the survivors, through the Luka Doncic Foundation, which he maintains to “improve the health and well-being of children through play,” according to the journalist this Thursday. Doncic, whose father is Serb and has family in Belgrade, said through his Twitter account that he was “devastated” by the massacre perpetrated by a 13-year-old boy, a student at the same school.

“I am devastated by the tragic shooting at a school in Serbia and the loss of life, including those of innocent children. My thoughts are with the families and the entire community affected by this tragedy,” said the player.

“Belgrade, I support you and I am with you in these difficult times. Through the Luka Doncic Foundation I am exploring ways to help students, faculty and families affected by the shooting at Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School,” added Doncic.
