A week before the official start of the electoral campaign, the vice-president of the Government and the visible face of Sumar, Yolanda DÃaz, has removed the leaves from the margarita and has informed of the events to which she is going to support “progressive formations” in the face of 28M. DÃaz will be at an event in Alicante supporting the candidate of Unides Podem, Héctor Illueca, and, the following day, he will go to Valencia to listen to the problem of the expansion of the port in a non-party event – organized by the Ciutat-Port commission – in which the mayor of Valencia, Joan Ribó, and the Unides Podemos candidate for Mayor, Pilar Lima, will be present.
A complicated balance that satisfies Podem, who sees how the leader of Sumar does not campaign for her political rival and that CompromÃs understands given the circumstances. “The affinity between DÃaz and the mayor Joan Ribó is evident, but we understand that he cannot campaign against the candidate of the party that has appointed her vice president,” they point out from the City Council. Thus, things, they emphasize that in principle, DÃaz, will not do an act of support for Pilar Lima either and add that they are delighted that the Galician leader visits Valencia to understand a claim that does unite purple and orange.
In a certain way, the two parties that will compete for that vote to the left of the PSPV see DÃaz’s support for the Unides Podem candidate, Héctor Illueca, who was his subordinate in the Ministry of Labor as director of the Labor Inspectorate, as “logical”. and Social Security. The fact that it is being held in Alicante still generates more understanding since it is not taking place in the constituency for which Joan Baldovà is running and in which CompromÃs is stronger.
In Unides Podem they see DÃaz’s agenda “within normality” and point out that it will serve to confirm the request that Illueca made in his day to have all the leaders of his political space in this campaign: from the vice president, to the leaders of Podemos and Izquierda Unida passing through Pablo Iglesias. At the moment, it is not known if someone from the national leadership of Podemos will share the act in Alicante with the leader of Sumar or where the rally will take place. Regarding the act in Valencia, the same sources point to this newspaper that it seems perfect for the vice president to attend an act with civil society.
For their part, in CompromÃs, they reiterate that “they understand the balance” and that “the protagonists of their campaign are the candidates for the regional and municipal elections”, although they admit that in “specific places, the presence of people from outside can help”. .
The Ciutat-Port Commission has summoned DÃaz “in order to explain in detail the arguments against an extension that, according to numerous experts, would put the southern beaches and Albufera itself at risk.” In this invitation and “from the vocation of transversality of the citizen platform, the invitation made to all the representatives of the political groups is reiterated to listen to the arguments that support the opposition to the port expansion project.”
In a context of a technical tie, the presence of DÃaz in the last stretch of the campaign -he will be in Alicante on May 24 and in Valencia on May 25- can be a boost to mobilize (in those days when many voters end up specifying that they will on Election Day) to the left. All the analyzes suggest that abstention can be decisive on election night.
In this sense, the support of the most valued political leader may be key in a coalition that tries to make good the forecasts of the surveys that indicate that they will maintain their representation in the Valencian Parliament for four more years.
