“Peace cannot wait. New Hospital Now”. This is the motto chosen by the professionals of the Madrid hospital to launch a campaign against the regional government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso on change.org to collect signatures as the rehabilitation works of the hospital center, one of the benchmarks in the capital, did not begin. In a few hours, they have achieved the support of almost 500 signatures, with which the demand can be positioned among the most recommended petitions.

In the text they recall that -in the first hospital by reputation in Spain- it is urgent to start the demolition of the buildings of La Castellana and start the construction of the new ones, since “the old hospital does not give more of itself”.

This is not the only action that the Technical Assistance Board of La Paz is going to carry out, but that next Wednesday it has convened an Assembly for the almost 8,500 employees and to be able to explain to them the critical situation that the hospital is experiencing.

According to Antonio Buño, a doctor and spokesman for the Technical Assistance Board, “we have the support of the personnel board, made up of human resources and the unions” to stand up to the Ayuso government that ignores their requests. In addition, posters have been placed at certain points in the hospital so that “patients and citizens are aware of the critical situation,” explains Buño.

Buño also recalls that neither Ayuso nor the Ministry of Health, led by Enrique Ruiz Escudero, have responded to the letter that was sent to them more than three months ago “asking for explanations for the stoppage of the project.”

In the change.org petition, the professionals from La Paz highlight that 15 national and international architecture studios presented themselves to draft the project. In addition, 700 heads of the hospital service collaborated in drafting the care needs. “The Campo de Retamas project was the one that was awarded and the design was developed in accordance with the functional plan.” Now, the next step would be to award the works to a construction company and get them started. However, the Ayuso Government showed at the end of last year the intention to make changes to the initial project, which could be delaying the start-up.

A week ago, CCOO already denounced that “there are quite a few broken pipes in some hospitalization floors and operating rooms without heating.” Another department that experiences many space problems to care for patients is adult emergencies, where the winter months saw many days of full collapse.
