Twelve people were injured on Sunday night at the San Miguel de Deiro festivities, in Vilanova de Arousa (Pontevedra). A car broke into the festival and collided with one of the tents in full musical performance. Among the injured is a child, in serious condition due to abdominal bleeding.
The small car involved in the fatal accident was occupied by an octogenarian couple. The woman behind the wheel apparently lost control of the vehicle and went directly into a corner of the affected tent. She also broke down the canteen that offered the bar service. Part of the public did not realize what had happened until the singer of the ParÃs de Noia orchestra stopped the performance.
Before stopping, the car continued to advance a few meters inside the tent. According to La Voz de Galicia, several witnesses had to get people out from under the car and perform first aid while waiting for the emergency services to access the rugged area. The mayor of the town, Gonzalo Durán, confirmed that among the injured was a minor in serious condition.
The passenger of the vehicle is a well-known man in the area. This is Luis Falcón, better known as Falconetti, a Galician businessman considered a history of tobacco smuggling and in the early years of drug trafficking in Arousa, in the convulsive decade of the eighties. Falcón created a real estate and hotel empire during those years in VilagarcÃa.
Falconetti was sentenced for a hashish stash to six years in jail. He has always defended his innocence. The last time he sat in the dock was in 2012 with his wife, the person responsible for the outrage. The Prosecutor’s Office requested three years in prison for the marriage and fines of up to four million euros for a continued crime of money laundering linked to drug trafficking. They were acquitted by the Supreme Court for lack of evidence.
