After a quiet morning. Yesterday Sunday, starting at noon, the clouds grew like cauliflowers and began to unload heavy showers and storms in the Pyrenees.
The showers spread rapidly towards the regions of Girona and Central Catalonia and, finally, late in the afternoon, they also reached Vallès and Maresme, although more worn out.
The showers of the last few hours have accumulated more than 70 liters per square meter at the headwaters of the River Ter, in Ripollès.
The episodes of rain that have occurred between the end of April and the beginning of May have been very welcome in the context of drought in which we find ourselves. However, the reservoirs, for now, have noticed little.
The Puig-agut sanctuary is an impressive neo-Gothic building located in Manlleu, in the Osona region.
This monument is part of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia and is located at the highest point of the municipal area of ​​Manlleu (594 meters of altitude), with impressive views of the Pre-Pyrenees, Collsacabra, Guilleries, Montseny and Lluçanès, as seen in this series of photographs in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.
The hill on which the sanctuary stands is composed of fine, eroded blue marls rich in marine fossils.
The building itself is crowned by the Sacred Heart (a first in Spain), the Virgin of Lourdes and Saint Joseph. The building is in the shape of a Greek cross and has two chapels on both sides of the main altar, dedicated to Saint Joseph and the Virgin, respectively.
The dome of the building is prismatic and is decorated with stained glass windows in ogival arches. The exterior of the dome is covered by an orthogonal pyramid and the arms of the cross are covered by gabled roofs and decorated with pinnacles. The outer walls are decorated with stone simulations and corner stones.
At the foot of the church is the heart. The main façade is oriented towards the south and has blind arches distributed in a staggered manner, a rose window with stained glass and a rectangular portal.
The sanctuary was designed by the architect August Font i Carreras between 1883 and 1886 commissioned by Ramón Madirolas i Codina, heir to a farmhouse located in the municipality of Manlleu, near the sanctuary. He was blessed by Bishop Morgades on February 18, 1886.
