Spain is preparing for a new change in the weather in the middle of this week, when there will be a general drop in temperatures and rains in some parts of our country, which will mainly affect the north of the peninsula, according to the forecast of the State Agency of Meteorology (AEMET).

The week begins with the maximum temperatures rising in the western third of the peninsula, although a drop is expected in the eastern half and the Balearic Islands, notably in areas of the northeast; the minima will have little change. In fact, it will exceed 30 degrees in nine provinces.

The skies will be cloudy in the northeastern third of the peninsula, with some light rains in the Bay of Biscay, especially in the east, and showers and storms in the Pyrenees, Catalonia, the southern area of the Iberian system and the southeastern mountains, which may be locally strong.

The changes will begin to be noticed from Tuesday. According to the AEMET forecast, tomorrow an Atlantic front is expected to affect the northern third of the peninsula, producing cloudy skies, with rain and showers that will spread from west to east throughout the day, affecting Galicia, the Cantabrian area, the Pyrenees, the northeast of Catalonia and north of the Iberian system. Precipitation is not expected in the rest of the country.

In addition, temperatures will begin to drop, although they will continue to be very high. They will only drop in the west and northwest of the peninsula. Instead, they will rise in the southeast and in the Canary Islands. It is probable that 35 degrees will be reached in the Guadalquivir valley, and it is expected that they will exceed 30 in large areas of the interior of the southern half and in the south of Gran Canaria. The minimums will also go up.

For Wednesday, the AEMET announces rainfall, weak and scattered in general, which could be intense in the northeast of Catalonia, where occasional storms are not ruled out. With less probability there could also be showers in the Balearic Islands.

Regarding temperatures, for May 10, a general decrease in daytime is expected, both on the Peninsula and in the Balearic Islands, with drops that may be notable in areas of the eastern third of the peninsula.

For Thursday, the AEMET forecasts showers and storms in the northeast of Catalonia. Nor do they rule out the Balearic Islands. The temperatures, both the minimum and the maximum, will continue the decrease that began the day before, extending the decreases throughout the country.

As of Friday, although with greater uncertainty in its forecast, the precipitations will continue in the extreme north, which may be intense and accumulate large amounts in the eastern extreme of the Bay of Biscay. And in the eastern third of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, instability will continue. Temperatures will continue to decline in the interior of the peninsula, the Cantabrian area and the Canary Islands and will recover in the Mediterranean area.
