The PAHC of Sabadell has reported that a resident of the city, over 70 years old, has committed suicide after being evicted from the apartment where he had lived for 30 years with his wife. Nació announced it and the ACN has been able to confirm it. The events occurred last Tuesday when a judicial delegation went to the couple’s home and they were informed of the obligation to leave the property.

Seeing that the woman had reduced mobility, the officials requested the presence of the Mossos. According to the PAHC, the man left the property “in a state of shock” and took his own life in a nearby park. The organization considered that it was “a murder due to class violence” and requested that the actions of the group and the police be investigated.

The PAHC has explained that the couple had been forced to stop paying the rent for more than a year due to the economic situation in which they lived: “They preferred to continue paying the rest of the expenses, basic supplies and food, before paying some rental fees that they could not assume.”

Likewise, from the Platform for People Affected by Mortgage, they affirm that in the community, Àlex – that was the victim’s name – was known for being a “handyman” and helping many neighbors with small works that they had to do in their homes. They also explain that he was in charge of taking care of his wife, who cannot take care of herself.

Mossos sources explained that the eviction began by court order and that at first only the judicial procession went to the building. Upon entering the apartment, judicial officials found the victim’s wife lying on the bed and verified that she had mobility problems.

It was then that they alerted the Mossos that they sent a police team. An ambulance was also activated and took the woman to a health center where she is being admitted.

The platform has considered that the events can be considered “a murder perpetrated by the entire network of those who believe that the right to private property is above having a home and living with dignity.”

For this reason, he has demanded that “the actions of the judicial committee and the police officers” be investigated and also “that the Sabadell City Council appear as an accusation” against these institutions “for attempted suicide towards the man.”

On the other hand, he has demanded that the municipal government assume the costs of the funeral and, together with the Generalitat, ensure that the woman is relocated to a decent space “with psychological and economic support.”
