Twitter maintains the blockade of the account of the second vice president of the Valencian Government and candidate of Unides Podem for the Presidency of the Generalitat Valenciana, Héctor Illueca. The aspirant of the purple formation has not been able to enter the social network since yesterday and has warned this morning that the company had blocked his profile for a tweet in which he recounted the campaign route that Unides Podem carried out on Saturday in the municipalities of Utiel, Requena and Buñol with the local coalition candidates.
In the early afternoon, Illueca has confirmed to La Vanguardia that the blockade continues, while his team has explained that they are in negotiations to try to recover this space since the UP candidate addresses his almost 20,000 followers. They point out that, although they do not share it, they are even willing to delete the tweet that caused the blockade. However, the same sources warn of the “seriousness” of the fact that this type of publication can be censored without further explanation at a key moment in the campaign where Unides Podem is risking it.
Along these lines, Illueca has shown his concern, stressing the electoral context in which the blockade occurs and has recalled that he is the current vice president of the Valencian Government. “I think it is an extremely serious situation and it is harmful to our democracy and I want to remember that it rains, it pours because our political force has been suffering media violence from some sectors and judicial harassment for years,” he indicated.
This morning Podemos has denounced the harassment it has been receiving in recent days on Twitter as it saw both official and personal profiles of the social network blocked by the company, following false complaints orchestrated by extreme right-wing groups.
And it is that apart from Illueca’s account, that of the candidate for mayor of Valencia, Pilar Lima, as well as members of her team and followers “are being the subject of false complaints coordinated from the Telegram group Unga Unga Army and blocked through the social network Twitter”, they point out from Podem.
Along these lines, the party denounces that the US company is allowing this harassment and blocking candidate accounts in the middle of the electoral campaign, which occurs without any reason or infraction for which the tweets are being denounced and which began as a result of the controversy over the mockery of the mayoral candidate, Pilar Lima, in the Pablo Motos program, El Hormiguero.
Podemos denounces that there is a constant attempt to silence their candidates, removing them from electoral debates in the media and now also on the social network Twitter and that this is part of a very serious political operation that violates the rules of democracy to an election week.
