The Amazon founder asked his partner, journalist Lauren Sanchez, to marry him while they sailed aboard his impressive yacht, and she agreed without hesitation.
A marriage proposal that was not just in words, as the billionaire businessman gave his now fiancée a spectacular ring crowned with an equally impressive diamond, which, according to what they say, exceeds 20 carats. Its price is unknown, but at least it will exceed seven figures.
At the moment, both have confirmed the news of their engagement, but have not given details about how or when they plan to get married. What they have done has been to appear at the Cannes Film Festival, where they attended the presentation of Killers of the Flower Moon, before returning to their yacht, with which they are touring the Mediterranean.
The sailboat, a gigantic 127-meter-long vessel valued at around 500 million euros, began its route in the waters of the island of Mallorca. Named Koru -a word of Maori origin that alludes to new beginnings-, the boat is the tallest in the world. According to various media, the ship can comfortably accommodate 18 guests, but obviously the capacity of the ship is much higher, since the ship alone can accommodate 40 people as a crew.
The relationship between the businessman and the journalist began in 2019, shortly after the divorce of Bezos and his wife of 24 years, MacKenzie Scott, with whom he has four children. For her part, Sanchez formalized her divorce from artist representation agent Patrick Whitesell in October 2019, after 13 years together and two children together.
A romance that began on an indeterminate date before their divorce, shortly after they met through Whitesell during the presentation party for the film Manchester by the Sea in 2016. After that first connection, it was possible to see the now a couple on several occasions, confirming what was an open secret.
Since then, the couple has been seen at multiple events and sharing trips around the world, professing their love wherever they go.
