Just 48 hours after, a record time, the game between Valencia and Real Madrid, the Competition Committee decided yesterday, past eleven at night, to leave without effect the red card that saw the Brazilian Vinícius for assaulting an opponent in Mestalla In an unprecedented decision, Competicio argues that the referee did not have the global situation of what happened on the pitch, only one part to make that decision. In addition, the organization “considers it proven that there were racist shouts at Vinícius” and therefore “imposes on Valencia a financial penalty of 45,000 euros” and “the closure of the so-called Grada Kempes for a period of five matches”.

The organization, which belongs to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), accepts for this resolution the arguments of Real Madrid, which in its writing asserts that Vinicíus, “in a desperate attempt to get off the player’s arm rival’s neck, faced with the imminent risk of suffocation, the rival player instinctively pulls himself off.” Competicio bases its decision on considering “it has been proven that the referee’s assessment was determined by the omission of the entirety of the situation, a fact that vitiated the arbitration decision. Indeed, the fact that a determining part of the facts was stolen from him led him to adopt an arbitrary decision”, he says. And he continues to explain that the arbitrator “was unable to adequately assess what happened, since in the procedure for the adoption of such a decision there was the omission of an indispensable procedure so that the decision could be legitimately and legally adopted”, she points out.

According to what was collected by referee De Burgos Bengoetxea in the minutes of last Sunday’s match, the expulsion of Vinícius was for “hitting the face of an opponent with his arm when the ball was not in play, in a massive confrontation of players from both teams. The opposing player did not have to be attended to”. The Committee, on the other hand, does not assess whether the Brazilian player exercised any type of violence either towards rivals or with disdain in the stands and explains that “it is limited to reviewing in this resolution the specific sanction imposed by the referee reflected in the minutes, it does not correspond to him to evaluate or sanction the actions produced, neither by the player cited nor by the other participants in the incident”, because according to his opinion “he understands that he cannot proceed ex officio to re-arbitrate and adopt the sanctions that they should, in their case, have prevailed”.

Competition thus resumes the performance of the referee in charge of the VAR in the controversial Mestalla match, the Galician Iglesias Villanueva, who yesterday, in another unprecedented event, was terminated by the Federation with the agreement of the Technical Committee of ‘ Referees.

Regarding the racist insults that Vinícius received before and during the match, Competicio, made up of three judges, one appointed by LaLiga, the other by the RFEF and the other by the Superior Council of Sports, considers “proven that, as as the referee reflected in his report, there were racist shouts at Vinícius, a Real Madrid player, during the mentioned match, the normal development of the same was altered and the infractions are considered very serious”. In the resolution they consider these insults to be of “exceptional gravity”, aggravated by the “number of chants uttered and their openly racist nature”. For this reason “he considers the imposition of a penalty of partial closure of the sports venue for a period of five games and a monetary penalty of 45,000 euros to be appropriate and proportionate. The partial closure will affect the so-called Grada Kempes, located at the south end of the field. Valencia, dissatisfied with the decision, will appeal as it is considered excessive.

Throughout yesterday, Vinícius spoke out again on social networks for the racist chants he suffered in Mestalla. “Every away game is an unpleasant surprise. And there have been many this season. Death wishes, hanging doll, many criminal screams… Everything recorded”, says the Brazilian, who in the last two days has received the support of many personalities from the world of sports throughout the planet and, in special, from his native country, Brazil.
