Starting next Monday, the 29th, the Mataró Hospital Oncohematology Day Hospital will operate in new facilities located on the ground floor of the center, which improves its accessibility. It has 18 seats and 4 individual boxes for the administration of chemotherapy, hematological treatments and others, in a space of 600 square meters. It is also equipped with 4 medical consultations, its own waiting room, a clinical research room and other work spaces (nursing control, rest room, warehouse, etc…).

This space provides cancer patients and their families with a more private, comfortable and quiet environment than the previous day hospital. Thus, patients are not in shared spaces, but in individual areas that have room for a companion, individual television, piped music and shelves to leave personal belongings. It also has natural light and new seats for treatments that are more ergonomic.

The design of this new space has had the collaboration of the patients themselves and their companions, since before the start of the works a survey was passed to the users so that they could assess the elements of the environment that, in their opinion, were most important . Silence, privacy, the comfort of the armchairs, natural light and having adequate space for the companion were among the most valued elements, and the initial project was adapted to improve these aspects. Thus, most of their contributions have come true and their experience and advice have served to humanize and give greater warmth to the new spaces, two of the main objectives sought along with improving the quality of service.

The Dia Hospital cares for people with cancer who must undergo tests or complex treatments, but who do not need to be hospitalized. Last year, more than 5,000 chemotherapies were administered, apart from other outpatient treatments such as iron therapy, packed red blood cells, immunoglobulins, intravenous antibiotics, etc. Personalized attention by a multidisciplinary team and not separating the person from their family, social and work environment while the treatment lasts, represent great benefits and lead to an improvement in the quality of life of patients.

The construction of the new Oncohematological Day Hospital is one of the works framed within the Hospital expansion project, with an investment of 10 million euros by the Generalitat Infrastructures. The expansion of the surgical block is also already underway, with two additional operating rooms to the current nine, a Resuscitation area that will double its capacity -going from 12 to 25 boxes- and a complete remodeling of the Non-Admission Surgery Unit (UCSI) .
