Since 1972, Bodegas LAN has had a close relationship with the land of Rioja. The name LAN comes from the initials of the provinces of the D.O.Ca. Rioja: Logroño (today La Rioja), Álava and Navarra. But, in addition, his commitment to the land goes far beyond his name. For Bodegas LAN, the land is the essence and the origin of its wines.

And it is precisely in Viña Lanciano where the heart of Bodegas LAN is located. This 72-hectare vineyard is located in a meander embraced by the Ebro River, on the natural border of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. A privileged location that favors a microclimate in each of its 22 plots, in which they fully respect the logical balance of nature through sustainable viticulture.

The Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano and Garnacha vines are between 40 and 60 years old, and have to sink their roots deep in search of nutrients in order to survive in this ancient riverbed full of boulders. This almost mythical effort of nature is reflected in the personality of the grapes, to which it provides mineral nuances.

The weather also leaves its mark on Viña Lanciano. Sheltered by the Sierra de Cantabria, with Mount El Rincón on the southern limit of the vineyard and a meander of the Ebro River that embraces it completely, it is naturally protected from frost and the rigors of summer.

Bodegas LAN actively practices sustainable viticulture in its vineyard in order to achieve balanced viticulture and, in this way, promote the self-defense of the vines and a microclimate of the bunches with good aeration and light.

But, for Bodegas LAN, their way of understanding oenology begins with viticulture. It is in the vineyard where they exquisitely select their raw material. At the optimum moment of ripeness, they harvest completely by hand, bunch by bunch and in small baskets. Upon entering the winery, the grapes from the Viña Lanciano estate are handpicked on a double selection table; first by bunch and then by grain.

The LAN legend is also part of its history. Legend has it that Charlemagne himself crossed the Mantible Bridge, a bridge with colossal dimensions. Currently, only two of its arches remain, which since the beginning of Bodegas LAN have illustrated the label of Viña Lanciano, its most significant wine.

Private LAN, your most exclusive reservation

LAN Privado is the result of a selection of Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo from vineyards over 30 years old located in the Rioja Alta area. Aging took place for 20 months in extra-fine-grain French and American oak barrels followed by refining in the bottle for 22 months.

Bright cherry red in color, its intense aromas of red fruit stand out on the nose, with notes of sweet spices reminiscent of cinnamon and cloves as well as nuances of black pepper and licorice. On the palate it is voluminous and full. Very elegant and long aftertaste.

This wine is one of the proposals that make up the Gourmet La Vanguardia Rioja Reserve Selection pack.
