An appalling accident has left at least one person dead and a woman has suffered serious injuries on Calle Sant Antoni Maria Claret, next to Calle Independència, between the districts of Sant Martà and Horta Guinardó, in Barcelona.
The accident occurred when a large-tonnage truck collided with a wall of the Hospital de Sant Pau Modernist Site, which fell on two pedestrians who were passing by on the street at that time.
The fatal victim was 71 years old and died at the same place of the accident. The 63-year-old woman has been evacuated by the Emergency Medical System (SEM) of the same Hospital de Sant Pau.
As reported by the Barcelona City Council in a statement, the accident occurred at 08:42 this Friday. Bus lines D50, V23, H8, 19 47, 117, 191 and 192 are diverted to allow emergency teams to work.
The Consistory affirms that the driver of the truck has given negative results in alcohol and drug tests.
