The Castelo de Medina Winery is located in the heart of the Rueda Designation of Origin, in the municipality of Villaverde de Medina, in the province of Valladolid. It was founded in 1996 by three wine lovers who decided to bet on quality and innovation in the production of their wines. It is currently owned by the Bonet Ferrer brothers, part of the 5th generation of one of the best-known winemaking families in Spain, the Ferrers, founders and architects of Freixenet’s worldwide success.

The winery has 180 hectares of its own vineyard, with an average age of 30 years, where the native varieties of the area are grown: Verdejo, Sauvignon Blanc, Viura, Tempranillo and Garnacha. The continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers, and stony and sandy soil, favor the development of healthy and balanced grapes.

Castelo de Medina has modern facilities where the entire winemaking process is carried out, from receiving the grapes to bottling and labeling. The winery has a capacity of 4 million liters and has stainless steel tanks with temperature control, pneumatic presses, tangential filters and a barrel room where some of its wines are aged.

The winery produces a wide range of white, rosé and red wines, which are grouped into four lines: Castelo de Medina, Castelo Noble, Vendimia Seleccionada and Syté. All of them reflect the personality of the terroir and the grape variety, with a fresh, elegant and balanced style.

The winery’s flagship is Castelo de Medina Verdejo, a monovarietal white wine that has been recognized as the most awarded Verdejo in the world in 2014, 2016 and 2017 by the World Association of Wine and Spirits Journalists and Writers. It is a wine that stands out for its straw yellow color with greenish reflections, its intense and complex aroma of white fruits, citrus fruits and aromatic herbs, and its fresh, tasty and persistent flavor.

The winery also offers the possibility of visiting its facilities and its vineyards, as well as taking guided tastings and initiation courses in oenology. In addition, it has an online store where you can buy its wines directly from the winery. Their wines can also be found on other specialized websites or in physical stores.

It is a winery that has known how to combine tradition and innovation to create wines that express the essence of the place and the variety. A winery that seeks excellence and that has managed to establish itself as a reference within the D.O. Wheel.

Its Verdejos, protagonists in Gourmet La Vanguardia

One of its most popular wines, the Verdejo Vendimia Seleccionada, is part of the Barrel White Selection offered by Gourmet La Vanguardia.

This wine is made with carefully selected Verdejo grapes from vineyards that are over 30 years old.

It is a greenish-yellow wine with intense aromas of tropical fruits, citrus notes and fresh herbs.

On the nose it is fine and elegant, with aromas of classic Verdejo such as dill, fennel, anise or apple; that acquire complexity with the light toasting, spices and pastry notes that the barrel has given it during its aging.

On the palate it is broad, long, fleshy and round, with its fruits and spices appearing again. It has a great persistence and an aftertaste that invites you to continue tasting it.

Castelo de Medina Verdejo Vendimia Seleccionada is a dry, fresh and aromatic wine, which reflects the character of the Verdejo grape and the influence of the continental climate and soils of the region.

This wine is suitable to accompany the aperitif, shellfish, oily fish (trout, salmon or tuna), poultry and smoked meats.

Another of its best-known proposals is the Castelo de Medina Verdejo wine, a monovarietal white wine made with 100% Verdejo grapes, grown in the Rueda Designation of Origin. It has a straw yellow color with greenish flashes, and on the nose it presents fresh and complex aromas of tropical fruits and herbaceous notes. On the palate it is balanced and elegant, with fresh acidity and a long and persistent finish.

In addition, it has been awarded several prizes and recognitions in international wine competitions, confirming its high quality and appreciation by experts in the world of wine.

It is an ideal wine to pair with fish, shellfish, salads, rice dishes and soft cheeses, and it is an excellent option for those looking for a fresh and complex white wine.
