The witches, the pressure or simply, soccer. Borussia Dortmund has written this Saturday one of the darkest chapters in its history, a day in which it has rolled out the red carpet for its archenemy Bayern Munich so that it sings its eleventh consecutive alirón in the Bundesliga.
Those of Tuchel did not depend on themselves and even so they managed to win the title against an opponent who will take many years to overcome what happened on the last day of the championship. With a victory at home against Mainz, where nothing was at stake, Dortmund would have put an end to Bayern’s tyranny, but it did not go beyond a draw (2-2), which was signed out of time. On the other hand, Bayern beat Cologne with a goal from Musiala in 89 (1-2), which finally meant the title for those from Munich since with a draw the Salad Bowl would have returned to the Ruhr.
The party that was prepared in Dortmund became one of the biggest disappointments in the club’s history. Tremendous picture of the Westfallenstadion (Signal Iduna Park), where not even a mosquito could fit, with the tears of the footballers and fans flooding the stadium. The 2012 title with Jürgen Klöpp on the yellow bench remains his last great success.
Dortmund did not measure up from the beginning, from which it was already detected that his legs were shaking against a Mainz that had chained four consecutive defeats. He also missed Bellingham, his best player, who was left on the bench with physical problems and who may not wear the yellow shirt again, the object of desire of several greats in Europe.
Mainz went 0-2 already in the first half, in which Haller badly wasted a penalty to cut back. Dortmund did not have a fang, which was a custard with the ball, and Mainz even touched a few more goals on counters.
Without too much soul, more because of the rival’s demerit, Terzic’s team was locking the rival in their area until Guerreiro’s goal came twenty minutes from the end. Cologne’s temporary draw against Bayern, celebrated in Dortmund as a title, made Borussia’s miracle easier, which during those minutes was only separated by a goal from the Salad Bowl. But Musiala sealed the title and Sule’s goal in minute 95 was no consolation. Bayern, for a change, was the Bundesliga champion.
