The film starts in the early 1970s and recreates the internment of a young man accused of fraud whose trial never comes. Model 77 runs through the harshness of life in prison, the abuses of the officials and the union between the inmates to demand improvements.

Model 77, which is based on real events, goes back to June 2, 1978 when the sewers of Provença street in Barcelona began to spit out men from the subsoil. During the previous 15 days, the prisoners from La Modelo had dug a tunnel with plates, metal and everything they could find. A total of 45 convicts managed to escape in the great escape from the Barcelona prison. The Police took eight years to arrest all the escapees and return them to jail.
